NICKNAMES: Era, Rasmus, Rhys
AGE: Thirty-two
GENDER: Male
RACE: Pixie
CLASS: U.S. and World History
PLAY BY: Yukio Okumura of Ao No Exorcist[/ul]
I SWEAR TOGETHER WE'VE BEEN
here before but we never looked away
here before but we never looked away
HAIR: Brown
SKIN: White
BODY: Slimly built
UNUSUAL: None, other than his wings.
OTHER FORM: He has wings but otherwise he looks the same.
APPEARANCE: Era has a pale complexion and blue eyes, just like his son. He sports brown hair, normally kept short and combed down. Era chooses to wear glasses because he always has and they make him feel like himself. Technically, he can't see anything close to him, but it could be argued that he is perfectly capable of seeing without them. He would rather use glasses than try contacts. Poking his eye with a hardly visible lens atop his finger... Insanity.
Anyway. Clothes. Because he's a teacher, he feels it necessary to wear suits and ties. He wants to look proper for his students, and he pulls it off well. When not in class, he wears jeans and t-shirts just like everyone else. Nothing particularly remarkable. He does, however, own a leather motorcycle jacket and a road licensed street bike that some may see him on. Most wouldn't believe it was him, though.[/ul]

DISLIKES:

STRENGTHS:
Erasmus' memory is superb, which is part of the reason he always seemed like the smart person in the room. The fact that he had a natural knack for the school subject of English didn't hurt that impression, either.
His determination is another personality trait that serves him well. When he decided to do something, he does it no matter the challenges presented. This is most noticeable when he learns a new skill or is tasked with a presentation or making a lesson plan work.
Era's genuine ability to care about others is easily the only reason he's ever made friends. Once someone realizes just how much they'll mean to him, he begins to mean a lot to them.
WEAKNESSES:
His quiet, introverted nature has been a major weakness in his life. From not knowing many people, to giving them a negative impression, he sometimes gets told he's scary.
He lacks a sense of humor and is often startled by the jokes of others. This is most noticeable when he interacts with his son, Silas, or when he someone tries to explain the latest slang or something picked up from the internet.
Erasmus is very organized, very formal, and very proper. It is apparent through his mannerisms, the preciseness of his classroom's arrangement, and the choices he makes for his attire. This creates for Era a preoccupation that others notice and occasionally resent. Those closest to him interpret it as him trying to act perfect, making close relationships hard to maintain.
Pixies are known for their temper. While people wouldn't expect the mild-mannered teacher to have a short temper, the fact is he does. Especially if someone is disrespectful or tormenting his son. He often says more in a bout of anger than he ever would in his typical calm state.
SECRETS:
Era has nightly nightmares. He fears for his son's future relationships. He misses Scotland and his uncle, Colton, but he can't say so because Silas is so upset about the move.
OVERALL:
Erasmus doesn't mince words. Erasmus is a very dignified teacher and a very intelligent man. He is an awkward father, but he loves his son and he secretly admires his teenage students (despite how odd he finds them). He maintains a calm demeanor most of the time. He acts as an adviser to many of the people he considers friends. He has both obsessive and compulsive tendencies, but has no diagnosis of OCD because it doesn't seem to hinder his life too much.
Era's goal in life is to repair his relationship with his son but the fact that wild parties, chaotic situations, overactive children, dangerous stunts and the like all seem to make him very uncomfortable puts a barrier between them. He is not particularly daring or brave like Silas. No, rather, he's predictable, stable, and constant- never one for spontaneous actions... Until someone sparks his temper. Then he is anything but calm and collected.[/ul]

FATHER: Ryan James Malixi, fifty-one.
SIBLINGS: Kolter, thirty-one ; Maurina, twenty-nine ; Jace, twenty-seven
OTHER PEOPLE: Son; Silas James Malixi, sixteen
Uncle; Colton Russel Malixi, forty-eight.
HISTORY:
Era was a child on a farm.
Era was a child who hated dirt.
Era was a child who only spoke to his younger brother.
Era was a child who thought his father knew nothing.
Era didn't ask to be born on a farm, the way he didn't ask to have the name Erasmus, have glasses at the age of three, or be considered smart the day he started kindergarten. But that was the life he had. He was a brown haired, blue eyed kid in the public school system of Colorado with a funny name. He went by 'Rasmus' and got called 'Rhys' by his peers when his brother, Kolter, started kindergarten because they heard Kolter say it.
Era was the brother of the most popular kid in kindergarten. It really was impossible not to like Kole. But the brother's bond went beyond the schoolyard. The two boys shared a room during their childhood. Neither of them were particularly inclined when their mother offered to take one boy out of the attic to the spare bedroom she'd cleared out.
Kolter was the type of person who identified with people and listened. When his brother was sad, he had such a unique way of comforting him that it was impossible to hold onto the negativity. And, all the while, you were left with the feeling that it wasn't his intent to make you forget. It was as if he would listen to you for as long as you wanted. You mattered to him and you knew it.
For the temperamental Era who preferred solitude and silence, he spent most of the time feeling anxious. Reading took his mind off of it, but the sight of the dirt on the page and the realization that his hand was too dirty to do anything but smudge the page left Erasmus with no other option than to stay at school as long as he possibly could.
Era's mother sympathized. She included him in cleaning around the house and she always seemed particularly careful with Era. Even the caring woman realized that Era wasn't quite reaching the emotional maturity necessary to survive the world.
Ryan Malixi appeared less tolerant. Hiding his fear for Erasmus' future behind his strictness, he drew the boy into the laborious farming tasks, trying to teach him the way of the farm. Era was oldest. He was meant to take over the way Ryan had taken over for his father. Era knew from an early age that Kolter was much better at running the farm. Even the boy's younger sister mastered the tasks better than Era.
Colton, whom Kolter was named for, saw the problem when he visited the family. He had once called the farm home. When something was amiss, it wasn't hard to identify. At the first opportunity after his father's passing, Colton had hopped on a plane and found the first available job in England. Soon after, he was transferred to Scotland. Deciding he didn't like the city life in Glascow, he moved to the village of Paisley, Scotland. Now, as he looked around at his older brother's family, he knew what he had to do. Sometimes goodbye was a second chance. Colton Malixi took Erasmus to Scotland after his eleventh birthday.
Era was a rebellious teenager.
Era was a teenage father.
Era thought his father was brilliant.
Era missed his brother.
Why he had to be sent away was beyond him. Whether it was a result of Erasmus' age at the time, or what his family perceived as a lack of maturity on an emotional level, he couldn't fathom why he was now more than two continents away.
Being from America gave him a definite popularity boost. Feeling less anxious about life and his place in the world helped him learn to socialize. By no means was he suddenly the center of attention. He was still very quiet, actually. But suddenly people saw a chance to get to know him, so they took it.
Erasmus was a sweet boy. He was still a farm boy at heart. Mildly naive, trusting, and caring. He was the perfect target for the confused city girl with the rough life. He listened. He wanted to marry her. He cared in a way that was genuine and worthwhile.
She told him she wanted to marry him too. She told him they couldn't until they both turned eighteen because her parents would never consent. She swore they would be fine if they slept together early.
Era is convinced now that the promise is always a lie.
Silas was born less than nine months later. Era's girlfriend, Ainsley, had since dumped him and wasn't entirely sure the child was his at this point. But she didn't care too much because either way, her parents were insisting she give the baby up. After Silas was born, Erasmus' only notification came from friends of friends. He couldn't reach her by text. He was sent away by her father with the threat of police involvement if he showed up again.
Erasmus Malixi felt like his life was over. He spent most nights alone, finding solace in not only novels, but also a fair bit of liquor. Books took on a new dimension with a bottle of Jack under the belt. It was in a state of utter inebriation that Erasmus opened the door of his uncle's home to find two uniformed officers. They weren't amused by his drunkenness. They stated that he was the potential father of one Ainsley Rixon's infant. Pending a DNA test, he could be named as the father, and, before they went through the trouble, would he want to waive parental rights so that the baby could be sent to Glascow to an orphanage?
Erasmus would like to think it wasn't his drunken state that made him state plainly that he wouldn't waive. His uncle showed up shortly after that, which was good, because Erasmus didn't stay awake much longer than that.
Silas was declared officially his. He wasn't too surprised to find the results proved he was the father. Now Silas was completely his. And Silas cried. Silence was a thing of the past as was privacy and the idea of sitting in darkness to reflect. Natural light was what the baby seemed to thrive on. Era learned quickly that he needed to put music on (usually classical so Era could still concentrate on his homework) at all times.
Era was a quiet father.
Era made mistakes as a father.
Era was scared of being a father.
Era relied on Colton to be a father.
Erasmus loved Silas completely, but he was still a teenage boy who dated often, and who had school for six hours a day. For the first four years of Silas' life, Era was a constant force, just not the guiding parental force. He was Silas' favorite, not his parent. Colton took that role to provide Silas with stability the way he had for Era.
Colton threatened to contest Erasmus' custody of Silas if Erasmus didn't attend school. So Erasmus took accelerated classes, ended up in college, and got his teaching credentials. Era stayed in Scotland for years after that. Once he got a job, he began renting his own home. Between Colton, Silas, and Era's own desire to be together, it seemed that the second household did little more than provide more storage. When Era wasn't at Colton's home, Colton was visiting with the oddest excuses.
Erasmus made the decision to move to the U.S. when Silas was fourteen years old. The decision was prompted by Colton saying that Erasmus' mother was sick. It turned out that after a new medication, she improved, but the idea loomed that the next sudden illness may not go away.
So the duo moved to Era's childhood home of Colorado. From there they found out about a school that appeared perfect for Silas. Being a pixie himself (it hadn't mattered when he was growing up, but he wanted Silas to have all the information possible) he figured he had a shot at a position at the school.

The voices of the children still echoed behind him as they wrapped up their playtime, leaving the smile at his lips as he strode quietly away from the happy homes of Arkham. He dug his hands deeply into his pockets, the fingers of his right hand naturally encircling the black iPod classic as his mind began to wander. Silas was bound to need music when the silence of the night set in.
A different assembly of noises became distinguishable the closer Silas got to the Sanatorium. The screams of anger from windows barred, but still open to the fresh air were a far cry from loving parents' call to dinner or disappointed children's automatic protests. Worse were the startling sound of banging. That was more profound than even the most pained cry from an injured child.
It was hard to believe the homes were still within walking distance of where he now stood. Silas could only stare in awe at the intimidating building before him. With so much pain resonating, it was hard not to picture a trickling stream of blood on the stone walls of the building. It would have been a striking, but fitting testament to the cruelty of humans toward their fellow man.
"Hey! Kid! You better not be here to cause trouble!"A man scolded. He was standing near the building with a two-way radio in one hand and a pair of hedge clippers in the other. Apparently hedge clippers were the best form of weapon to fend off intruders in the night, or to threaten patients with when they wandered out of the building. If Silas hadn't been so startled, he probably would have laughed.
"No sir, I wasn't going to cause any problems."Silas timidly called back, hoping his simple assurance would pacify the makeshift guard. His Scottish accent ensured his words were quickly lost to the wind after a brief moment of audibility. The man was still scowling. That couldn't have been all that comfortable. Silas briefly wondered if he was making that expression in hopes that he'd see better in the semi-darkened surroundings between them.
"Get over here,"The man ordered, even as he took deliberate strides in Silas' direction. Silas didn't need another indication of danger. Whether it was the threat of the hedge clippers, or just the realization that this wouldn't end in a simple discussion, Silas took off back toward the much safer facade of the Arkham city homes.
He didn't make it far before he found himself colliding with something somewhat solid. The impact sent Silas to the ground, his breath suddenly lost to the night air. Death by hedge clippers had never seemed like a plausible demise before, but now as he struggled to remember how to breathe, fear of a blade piercing his skin washed over him.
