RACE: wyvern

I SWEAR TOGETHER WE'VE BEEN
here before but we never looked away
here before but we never looked away
HAIR: red, though in some light it could appear to have orange highlights, though this is merely a trick of the eyes.
SKIN: pale, does not tan very easily even if she tries.
BODY: slim and athletic, with just enough bust to matter.
UNUSUAL: studs in her ears, dragon curve in her belly button.
OTHER FORM: naiomi’s natural form is a wyvern, a dragon-like creature with razor sharp wings on its forearms. she has iridescent scales that appear yellow or orange, but can reflect light as blue and even violent when viewed from certain angles, with cat-green eyes and deadly sharp fangs.
APPEARANCE: naiomi’s a very hard girl to place when it comes to appearance. only a few things remain staple with her. her hair and eyes are always red. her hair is typically held back into a ponytail that falls all the way to the small of her back, though sometimes she lets it down and wears it straight as well. her features are feminine yet fierce, reflecting her true nature regardless of how ladylike she feels like dressing at any time.
as for her dress, it quite often varies. sometimes she could dress quite modestly, other times she may wear a particularly feminine dress, or she might dress quite tomboyish. she’s particularly fond of knee-high boots and shirts that reveal her midriff, which is quite flat and firm with muscle, and though her bust is not overly large she still knows how to show it off. and although she may seem sleight in her build she holds a hidden strength and can often show that through sheer confidence in the way she carries herself.

DISLIKES: the very first thing anyone would notice about naiomi is that she is not very fond of humans. she may enjoy their music, their cooking and so forth, but she is not very fond of them as a species. of course certain traits roll over even to other monster kin, such as long-windedness and stupidity, and she hates being talked down to, but those aren’t dislikes exclusive to her. being used to the outdoors as she is she absolutely hates cages and other enclosed places, and has come to thoroughly disregard raw vegetables in her human form.
STRENGTHS: as a wyvern naiomi is naturally very strong, even in her human form. she has enhanced senses that have been honed by years of hunting, and is very quick, even when in her larger wyvern form. she also has her venomous spikes on her tail. furthermore naiomi has developed a sort of partial form between her human and wyvern form, allowing her to grow razor blades down the length of her arm, claws at the tips of her fingers, fangs and even her tail, though it is thin and wiry when in this form, lacking the muscle of a full wyvern tail
WEAKNESSES: wyvern are very susceptible to heavy impacts and loud noises as well as fire, lightning and extreme temperatures since they are cold-blooded. furthermore as a wyvern naiomi has a very hot temper that can cause her to act somewhat recklessly at times should her buttons be pushed.
SECRETS: naiomi takes care that no one finds out about her enjoyment of poetry, particularly the sappy poems. she also refuses to let anyone know that she had once been caught by humans, as it was quite an embarrassing incident.
OVERALL: it would be very hard to categorize naiomi into any one category. she’s a tomboy, but she can be quite ladylike at times. she’s a studious student, but at the same time could be just as likely to skip classes on a whim. the real driving force that is naiomi is that she’s living life in the moment, one day at a time, with little thought toward the future. this could stem from her time in the wild as a hunter, carrying little for anything aside from her next meal, or it could just be because she had been captured once before and come to see how valuable life is. she’ll go to parties, she’ll get drunk, she’ll even try drugs, though they rarely have much effect on her. she’s quick-witted, speaks her mind and has a blazing hot temper, yet she could be cool and collected at the same time. she’ll make sure others know when she’s happy or upset and will often be the center of attention because of it, though there is no lasting urge to drive her to this position.[/ul]

HISTORY: naiomi was born in the australian outback, miles away from any noteworthy human civilization. she has little recollection of any sort of parental figure in her life. there was someone who helped her and taught her, but they’ve long since left, leaving naiomi on her own to fend for herself. which is exactly what she did. out there in the wild she became the top of the food chain, the largest predator around, and nothing messed with her. she hunted, she killed, she survived as a wyvern, not even knowing much about humans outside of the occasional jeep to drive by and the fact that there was an area she should avoid.
poachers every now and then tried their hands at capturing her if they actually managed to see her, but wyvern were furious things and all their tranquilizer darts seemed to do was make her more angry, and bullets made her even angrier. she never really kept count of how many humans she killed during the first few decades of her life. but humans were very adaptable creatures, and she was a very rare catch. the poachers knew about her, and so they began to organize special efforts to try and capture her. the first few failed, as they were experimental, but each failure helped them determine what they had to change.
so it was inevitable that eventually the trap closed in around her and naiomi was captured. it was her temper that did it in the end, it made her blind and reckless and she walked right into their trap. they captured her and caged her, taking her to the coast and onto an old frigate they had. a real life dragon, they said, and they planned on taking her straight to california, to los angeles, and making her a specatcle. a modern day king kong. the frigate took sail with high hopes and ambitions for their rare catch, but they didn’t realize they had no idea how to handle her.
when she awoke and found herself caught and bound, naiomi was furious. she struggled against her chains and lashed and writhed, but they had her secured. they’d even learned to keep her tail locked up and out of action. but what they hadn’t accounted for was her being able to shift into human form. it was a last resort, something she didn’t even know she was capable of at the time, but she shifted from wyvern to human and the bindings, designed for her normal form, fell away with ease, leaving the poachers with a naked teenage girl in their hull instead of their catch of the century.
they didn’t know how to react, which was why their guard was down. naiomi still had access to her natural weapons, and she laid open the throat of the poacher left on guard. on a frigate in the middle of the pacific ocean, the poachers were suddenly prey to a very dangerous predator. the frigate crashed against the shore of california and laid there until the coast guard could come by and investigate. inside they found everyone dead and a young woman left hiding, cowering, among the corpses. naturally they helped her, assuming she was so traumatized she couldn’t speak, but truthfully she didn’t know how. this was her first interaction with humans who weren’t trying to capture her.
she found they stank.
after a while the investigation tapered and she was put into an orphanage for lack of anything else to do with her. she didn’t stay there long and ran off, easily avoiding the lackluster efforts to find her. it was a new world and she was surrounded by new creatures, humans, and found herself needing to blend in. as a predator she knew how, and she began to adapt, to learn how to be human, and she found that despite her dislike for humans she loved all of what they created. the art, the music, the poetry (she came to understand the intricacies of the english language quite quickly and so poetry really stood out to her).
but she never really fit in. along her travels she caught wind of an academy for nonhuman creatures like herself, and so she sought it out, looking for a place where she didn’t have to hide anymore.[/ul]

RP SAMPLE:
[/ul]Naiomi didn’t like trains. The movement was entirely unnatural, too fast for anything normal. And they were so cramped full of humans, their stench made the air rancid, but she had long ago come to terms with that smell. She had to if she was going to live among them like this. Of course she had once entertained the idea of going back to Australia and to her former life, but after being introduced to all that human society had to offer she really couldn’t bring herself to do so. To go from all of this, the music, the food, the clothing, the experience, to simply living just seemed like it would be too boring.
An overweight man was shuffling his way down the middle of the train, asking people for their tickets. Little pieces of paper with ink on them that denoted whether or not someone belonged there, as if that seat was some valuable piece of property. The only reason Naiomi was on the train was because it was an efficient mode of transportation to get to her destination. It would take her weeks to walk all the way to Colorado where the Academy was, and that thought seemed somewhat boring. Long stretches of road with nothing to do. She could travel faster in her natural form, but humans were so spread out in this section of the world she wouldn’t get far before having to revert.
And it was particularly hard to carry luggage when your claws were so sharp they’d casually rip the bag apart without much force at all. Then there was transforming back and forth and having to put on her clothes again and all that tedium. Sometimes it was worthwhile just to take little sacrifices and suck it up. She could bear the smell of cramped and sweating human beings for the ultimate end of finding a place to fit in. She could still be among human society while being among her own kin. It sounded almost too good to be true, but much like human inventions, it also seemed very practical all things considered.
”Ticket, ma’am?” the conductor asked as he arrived at her seat. Naiomi offered the man a sweet smile and rummaged quickly through her purse for the ticket inside. A little piece of paper with ink printed on it saying she had paid for her seat. She offered it to the man, who gave it a quick and practiced glance, punched a hole in it and handed it back to her. ”Welcome aboard,” he said with that sincere smile only the particularly rotund seemed to be able to do, and then carried on with his business. Naiomi turned her attention to the window beside her and pressed the play button on her iPod, losing herself in her music once more.
Almost there.
