Yalya stood in the middle of the room, the floors were soft under her feet, padded with hardened foam to lessen the impact of falling. She had fallen far and many times, though falling on this floor has always had a purity to it. It wasn't her falling that mattered, for it was out here she found a degree of revenge. Men preferred her on her back so they could fall on her. She found it good to let herself vent in here, and to wound those who she considered predators who only had one thing in mind regarding her.
She'd worn an interesting outfit today, her ghi top and a knee-length skirt with knee pads and no shoes. She wanted to continue to train bare-legged but the knee pads were a must in the gym and the ghi always felt good, empowering. A punching bag was suspended from the centre of the room. Yalya's hair was tried back into a single pony tail, or at least as best as she could tie it back, considering it's fussy length and the workout she'd given herself. Blow after blow after blow had landed on the punching bag and she was working up a real sweat. Punches, elbows, knees, kicks, she was just finishing up a series of quick strikes with her forearms, open hands, and elbows, then stepped back, letting her eyes wander around the empty room...

His short time at the academy hadn't really been anything to write home about. First day here and he'd ended up becoming prey for a vampire of all things. He was right. Being in a place like this with countless other beings just like her or worse was literally like walking across a bed of spikes. Who knows when someone else may attack him again much in the same way.
And so, that's why the boy had taken to staying indoors for awhile. And who could blame him? He felt it better that he didn't see another tree at all for a long, long time.
After flinching and jumping at the slightest sights and sounds of various other students through the winding, narrow hallways, Ryan had finally stumbled to a place that appeared to be rather secluded.
Opening the door without reading the name on the door for whatever class this happened to be, Ryan turned and quickly shut the door behind him. Making sure for a second that no one had seen him enter the room. A sigh of relief was the only sound he made as he leaned against the door, closed his eyes and sank to the floor. His eyes slide closed as he then rested his forehead on his bare knees. Wrapping his arms around his legs.
He really ought to think about letting his parents know he was miserable here and how virtually everyone was out to kill him. Maybe that would convince them to pull him back out or something... [/blockquote]

"Hmm?"
She heard the door open and close, then stretched her arms and her neck. It was time to take a break anyway. The door opened softly as she left the training room and headed into the hall. One door was closed that she distinctly remembered being open. Odd, who'd be in here? She walked to the door and opened it, looking in. A guy curled up, he looked pretty down, something in her compelled her. Normally her reaction to this would be less than kind in a few ways, but she walked over to the boy and knelt down beside him. "Hey..."
Her voice was soft, lacking the normal bite, the edge she bared to everyone. She softly put a hand on the boy's back, between the shoulders and just below the back of the neck, the place her mom would rest her hand when Yaly needed someone to cheer her up. "Are you okay? I haven't seen you around here before." She kept her voice soft and caring, this guy needed some help it seemed and for some reason she felt the need to give it. Something was slipping for her if she was willing to try to help someone she just met for a change, but Yaly didn't question it, not right now.

The sudden sound of the door opening just a bit roused Ryan to tense up immediately. He kept himself quiet and hushed his breathing in the silent hope that the person who was stepping in might not pounce at him. Though that was hard to gauge just from sounds or not but thats mostly why he had yet to make any sounds of his own.
Footsteps made their way over to him and all he could do was tense up even more, remaining on full alert in case he needed to make a mad dash past them for whatever reason. He couldn't see them but yet his heart pace increased considerably, as he'd already virtually decided they might decide to strike him down but the soft coo of a female's voice caught him off-guard. Striking the thought of running from his mind.
He felt a gentle pressure just below the base of his neck and slowly lifted his head from his knees. Gazing into the eyes of a girl who was... well pretty much quite pretty. But he didn't let her looks fool him for the moment. That Vampire that had dealt him a life and death experience had been one of the most beautiful girls he'd ever seen in his entire life. Her strength, speed and bad attitude seemed to be quite the contrast, however.
But this girl seemed concerned for the most part. And Ryan had to admit, he kind of didn't wanna be left alone in a room that was completely safe but had rampaging Yajuu running around just outside. Waiting for him to leave...
Ryan almost shivered at the thought but listened to what the girl had to say before responding. "N... not really..." He stated, shaking his head as he subconsciously assumed that stating so wasn't enough proof. "And I'm... kinda a new student..." His eyes took in the girl's form warily, wondering but at the same time trying to predict exactly where she might strike from. Who knows, right? He's in a new school with monsters who hate humans, he mentions he's new, then one whiff of his scent later, he would be in a bloody mess upon the floor. And though something like that seemed far-fetched, the Vampire from before had been able to figure out what he and his other friend were somehow. He assumed it was because he smelled normal as opposed to an animal or rotting flesh or something. He wanted to shuffle away from this girl now. He really did. But he noted something like that could just as easily rile her up and she'd have his head for it in an instant. And so he merely kept still and watched her cautiously. "Uh... Is there a class starting here or something...? I can just leave if I'm in the way."[/blockquote]

"This is my first year too." Yaly smiled and kept her arm on him, scooting a little closer and changing her position. She kept her knees together and had both on the floor, and was now a little to the left of him but directly in front. She had her ghi tied up tight but it still hung open slightly at the front, another braless day meant there was a slight view into her top... "I'm B class, a harpy. I haven't seen you before but... are you a..." She looked away, somewhat thoughtfully as she considered it. "You're a human aren't you? Gifted? Wizard?" She was guessing, taking a shot in the dark more than anything else.
His unease was palpable, but Yaly kept her arm on him, not hard and forceful but soft and reassuring. It was mainly her hand on his back now but she still felt it important to maintain the contact. "There's no classes starting here, not for a few hours at least. I come here when I need time to myself or to blow off some steam." She gave him a smile and rubbed his back softly. "Wanna come and give the punching bag a go over? It really helps when you need it the most." She widened her smile and tilted her head, hoping to help the poor boy out. Something about him reminded her of, well, her. The way he seemed so withdrawn and his coming to the Dojo for quiet time by himself, she felt compelled to help him and to help him fit in.

It was great to hear that she was a first year too. Really, it was. But... she was a B class Harpy? He had no clue on what she meant by "B Class" but he did know from his fears that a Harpy wasn't human either. But then... why was she being so nice to him? He watched her cautiously as she took random swings on what he might be. Funny how she was had no clue what he was but had managed to get it right on the first guess. Even if she didn't know when to stop.
"Yeah... I'm just human..." He wondered why this girl was being so nice to him. If she'd guessed he was a human and she was a Harpy, shouldn't she have been tearing him limb from limb by now? Perhaps this was some sort of trick? Or maybe... Ryan kept his thoughts to himself as he listened to the girl sat beside him continue to speak. Her hand still placed upon his back but her touch was so gentle, it was almost as if it weren't even there to begin with. He couldn't figure this girl out, or even if she wanted anything from him. But he didn't feel any ill-intent coming from her at all. Maybe not everyone here was so hostile? Hopefully not, anyway. He could really use another friend... "Uh... I'm not really the... fighter type..." It felt so odd saying that. Especially in front of a girl, but he couldn't take it back now. Ryan's golden eyes drifted around the large gym as he realized this was a sort of Dojo. But was he wasn't quite the type to get into stuff like that. The punching kind of thing, anyway. He was more the speedy-athletic type. But still, she was only trying to offer him a friendly hand...[/blockquote]

"I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as "just" human, kiddo." The boy seemed so out of place, Yaly could relate. It was no secret that there was some resentment towards humans, a fact Yalya found hard to accept. You came to Akashibai to learn how to live with humans, and to promote Human and Yajuu interaction! Not to treat humans like pray or below you, they had just as much right as anyone else to be here and to seek a world where the two could live together. Yaly had a rather pleasant experience with the first human she'd ever met, and this boy wasn't going to bite her head off out of nowhere.
He said he wasn't the fighter type and Yaly gave him a small smile. "Well, you don't need to be to blow off some steam, but it's your choice. Do you have any classes coming up?" She tilted her head, making sure her eyes stayed aligned with his. Yaly didn't want to give the wrong impression, but she wanted to be sure that this human could see her intent, could see that she meant no harm. It was odd for her, suddenly caring for someone, trying to nurture them. It felt so alien and yet so unavoidable, like she couldn't stop herself from doing something she'd never done before. "I can walk you to your next class if you want, show you around the school a bit."

Ryan couldn't help but blink as she'd stated there was no such thing as 'just human'. He wasn't sure if she'd meant that in a joking-sort of way or if she genuinely meant it because she'd never met one before. But on the whole, he found the fact that she assumed him to be otherwise was a little strange.
He looked at his skin which covered his hands, gently pulled at the tuft of hair sticking out from underneath his cap then looked behind him down his back. As far as he was aware, his skin was wrapped firmly around his body, soft and smooth as could be. His hair was still on his head and was just as dark as ever. And he had no sort of tail or wings of which to show for.
So what else was there that she was implying?
The teenager unwrapped his arms from around his bare legs and allowed them to cross themselves on the cool floorboards of the dojo. His gaze showing confusion but at the same time curiosity as he continued to stare at the girl.
"How do you mean? I really am just a human. I can't do anything special at all and I don't have anything different growing out of me..." He actually hadn't bothered to think of his first set of classes. Honestly, he wasn't even sure what time it was and what classes he needed to be at. Of course, he probably wouldn't go to most of them anyway. Being a human and attending classes that taught you how to fit in with other humans was pretty redundant. So he saw no reason for him going when he was just going to be given 'Real boy 101'. Still, in front of this girl, another first year, he didn't want her to suddenly have a reason to stop talking to him just because he didn't want to go to classes. As things stood now, he was no position to be picky on who to be friends with and who not to be so he needed to make as many as possible. Safety in numbers, right? "I... I dunno. I think I have class in fifteen minutes or something. It's... uh... Human Disguise." He stated, pulling a sheet of paper out of his shorts pocket and scanned what he'd haphazardly scrawled onto it a few hours earlier. "What class have you got?" He still couldn't get why a Harpy was being so nice to him. He wasn't really anything special at all and he rarely had anything interest to say. Much less to a person who would probably find everything extraordinary to him, something of the norm to her. It was really starting to seem like he had some streak of bad luck going for him. Maybe if there were leprechauns going to the school, he could convince one to hand him over a four-leaf clover or something. Though, a pot of gold wouldn't be so bad either. [/blockquote]

He was so cute, the strange lack of confidence... Somehow it reminded Yaly of a lot of people she knew. "There's more to life then just powers and weird growths, honey. And there's more to you than "just" human." Yalya chuckled, she didn't even know this kid's name and she was working to cheer him up and help him fit in... He wasn't a bad guy, not like so many other men in this school, but he was someone who just needed help and she was surprised at how willing she was to provide it. He stated his next class was human disguise and she chuckled a bit. "That seems odd, why would a human need to go to a human disguise class?" She scooted a little closer to him, still kneeling down with one hand on her back but moving herself a little closer, moving her head a little closer to his.
"I'm Yaly, by the way. It's nice to meet you." She kept her voice soft and pleasant as she spoke, but something quite sincere came through. A spark of caring and concern she couldn't control had snuck into her voice. "I... don't have a class coming up just yet. I had just finished martial arts club. I can take you to your next class now if you'd like." She smiled, keeping her hand on his back and softly starting to rub his shoulder, wanting to reassure this boy that there was someone here who'd watch out for him.

Ironically enough, Ryan couldn't help but find it odd that a Harpy was talking to him about being human. Or at least... more then what he assumed he was now. She must have been the philosophical type or something since he didn't understand the hidden meaning behind what she said in the least. But... he guess he got the gist of what she wanted to say. He shouldn't think any less of himself just because he couldn't do anything exceptional or show off anything interesting. He was still him and that should have been enough.
"I guess... Thanks." He couldn't help but nod at her question. Honestly, he found himself wondering the same thing as soon as he'd found out about it. All he could do was merely shrug in response. If he'd had his way, he wouldn't be in this school at all if he could help it. It just seemed like everything was going wrong and he didn't know how to fix it. But at least with his lessons, he had some semblance of control; and that was when he skipped them altogether. He barely noticed the girl inch herself closer. Or if he did, he choice not to react to it. Even if she did intend to kill him like that vampire had, he doubted he'd have much chance of getting away. Especially not at this range. He'd practically given up any chance of escaping soon as she'd walked through the door in the first place. This didn't really change anything. "Uh... I'm Ryan. Likewise, I guess..." He responded once she'd given him her name. Which was unusual, but it wasn't bad. It must have been a common name for people just like her so he didn't bother questioning it. Least he suddenly find his head ripped from his shoulders before he was even ready. He blinked at her in surprise then turned his eyes away from her slowly when she'd offered to take him to his next class. Could he trust her to not lead him somewhere where she could take his life and no one would even so much as hear him scream? It was a risk, but at this point, a body guard might not actually be such a bad idea. If anything, male or female, she was stronger then him. He didn't have much of a choice either way. Well of course, that did depend on if he was even intending on going to class or not... "I don't know... I kind of just wanna..." He turned his eyes back to look at her again, only then recalling that she'd moved closer but, wasn't this a little much? "skip, really..." The teenager blinked again, slower then before but didn't move an inch. His body rooted to the spot completely as he stared back at Yaly. His eyebrows tilted down just the slightest as he wondered what was currently going through the girl's mind at that moment. "... What is it?"[/blockquote]
