NICKNAMES: you don't need any

RACE: Harpy

I SWEAR TOGETHER WE'VE BEEN
here before but we never looked away
here before but we never looked away
HAIR: Brown with natural red and gold highlights, making it look bronze or reddish brown, depending on the light. Normally a chocolate kind of color.
SKIN: Fair and pale despite all the time she spends outside
BODY: Tall and curvy, but still slender and agile.
UNUSUAL: She has a variety of freckles all over her body, but not in clusters except for a birthmark high on her left arm, like a light mocha paint splotch. As for scars, she has most on her legs. She has one above her left knee, one under her left knee, one above her left pinkie toe, two on top of each other on her right knee, one to the right and below her right knee in the form of two black marks, a thin, pale crescent on her right calf, and one above her right pinkie toe as well and on her right Achilles heel. She also plans to get a tribal bird tattoo on her hip one of these days.
OTHER FORM: Nothing about her really changes in her other form. She simply has a set of black wings extending from her shoulder blades, the tips about a foot or so from the ground and her nails sharpen to talons.
APPEARANCE: Carter is tall, first of all, at about 5'9, 5'10. She has a slender but curvy build, perfect for climbing trees in her mind. She's also extremely flexible, and even though she doesn't have any true double joints, she can bend most of her bones like she does. Secondly, Carter has a very pale and fair complexion despite her love of the outdoors. Most of her freckles appear on her arms and legs, though she has a few on her torso, namely the lonely little freckle to the right of her navel. She also has a sprinkling of light freckles on the bridge of her nose, though except in the summer, when hey get darker, you can't really tell she has them. She has about four on her neck, the most obvious are the one about the hollow of her throat and the pair on the right side of her throat, looking like a vampire bit her as her friends back home liked to joke. Her hair is fairly short, falling just an inch or so past shoulder length, and usually naturally straight except it curls at the ends and if she gets it wet and doesn't dry it, it turns into a wavy, curly mess. Since she doesn't color her hair, she's glad for the natural highlights her hair has, otherwise to her it'd be a dull, almost dusty color. With the highlights, it can either look bronze or even a deep, red-brown color depending on the light. Her eyes are a whiskey sort of color, though they can chance shade depending on her mood or the light. For instance, when she's happy and it's sunny, her eyes can look like amber with little gold flecks. She also doesn't have to wear mascara because her eyelashes are so long, practically touching her eyebrows. She has surprisingly dainty hands and wrists, but like the rest of her, they're stronger than they look. And, depending on how much you get her mad, can pack a wallop. She has long and dexterous fingers, which she uses to her advantage for climbing and catching things like lizards, for example, among other things. Her body is littered with scars, mostly her legs, but she thinks of them as badges of honor, showing the world that she isn't afraid to play rough. Her legs are rather long, as are her arms, making her adept at athleticism, though really the only sports she can do well are soccer, swimming, and horse riding.

TWO SEATS INSIDE AN EMPTY ROOM
with one more night what’s left to lose
with one more night what’s left to lose
DISLIKES: Rudeness usually, bad table manners, bad manners in general, snobs, arrogance, not being able to explore, being cooped up, too much authority, abuse of any kind -especially animal- , having to get up early to do something she doesn't like, those nights when your tired but just can't get to sleep, people picking on her friends -not in a friendly way-, bullies, books under 200 pages -unless they have a really good plot, and I mean really good, she just won't read them-, overly fishy tasting things, know-it-alls, narcissism, being snowed in with nothing to do, bad cooking -though she'll stomach it and tell the chef its delicious if the chef is a friend- , being in love -or so she thinks-, math, stereotypes.
STRENGTHS: Drawing, good with animals, friendly, outgoing, common sense, judge of character, creativity/artistic, sarcasm.
WEAKNESSES: Too stubborn for her own good, veerry opinionated, tends to a mouth on her, reckless, doesn't trust easily -especially men, brass, her wind control.
SECRETS: She actually gets scared like anyone else, she has moments where she's scared of the dark -depends on her mindset at the time-, she has a thing against being in open water alone, a small part of her wants to be loved -though she's squashed it down for the most part.
OVERALL: She may be a Harpy, but Carter's no birdbrain. She's actually very clever and intelligent with common sense to boot. Though when it comes to logic, heh, that's another story. See, 'real world' logic make perfect sense to her while math logic, like logic problems, make absolutely zero sense to her. That being said, while she hates math with a passion, she absolutely loves science to death. Whether its astrophysics or zoology, she's interested in it. Though you can't really do the second without the first, so it's a little weird by well enough. Pretty much as long as its in science form, she'll understand math. Its just when its math by itself that gets to her. Carter is also very friendly, and will make friends with just about anyone. Give an hour and a room full of strangers, she'll have a new set of friends. To her, it doesn't matter what 'class' you are. As long as you're nice, at least somewhat and not a complete jerk, she'll try to be your friend. To her, it doesn't even matter if your human. Hell, before she cam to the Academy, all her friends were humans and she got along with them just fine. Of course only her best friend, who she still talks to, knew she was a Harpy, but still. Even if you act like a complete ass, but she sees you exhibiting even the smallest amount of softness or kindness, she'll make it a point to try and be friends with you. Whether you like it or not. She knows you have a heart and that's enough for her. On the upside, she's very compassionate and a good judge of character. Well...that's not completely true. She's compassionate to pretty much everybody unless they give her a reason not to be, but if she likes you even a little, she'll still help you even if she doesn't necessarily want to.
Along with her friendliness and empathy, she is probably one of the most stubborn and headstrong people you'll meet. She won't back down from something unless she has an exceptionally good reason to do so if it the best course of action, but other than that, you have about as much chance as a snowball in hell. She has a very low tolerance for people who don't stand themselves and let them be walked over, and depending on the person, just doesn't have any respect for them, really. But on the flip side, if the person doesn't know how to stand up for themselves but tries, she'll gladly help them. Also, she doesn't like arrogance. A little is okay. It's natural. but if you go overboard and think your the best person on the planet or something like that, she'll most likely not be able to stand you and will try to knock you down a few pegs. She's also extremely curious, even by Harpy standards, and loves the thought of exploring the unknown or learning about it. She also plays pranks on her friends, though their harmless. Mostly.
She has a very strong sixth sense, I guess you could call it. she can read people well, but more than that, she gets feelings. Feelings about people, places, things, situations, you name it. Normally, if they're about a person, they are generally bad, but a few have been known to be good. As a rule, she listens to her instincts more than her head. Usually. In matters of the heart, she doesn't listen to her instincts. She doesn't know why, but for some strange reason, she just doesn't like being in love. She's fine with familial love (brotherly, sisterly, etc.) but anything more than that, she fights it. It'll probably take her a month to just admit she likes someone to herself, let alone anyone else. She'd most likely pass it off as a passing fancy. She's very independent, and prides herself on being able to take of herself and needing anyone to take of her, so maybe that's a part of it. She keeps her heart guarded like no ones business, so if anyone takes a liking to her romantically, and actually truly want to be with her, good luck. She protects her heart with bazookas, daisy-cutters, and anything else that happens to be on hand. Figuratively, of course. She just has never really seen her self being in love, and she's okay with that, for the most part. Like I said before, some small part of her wants to be loved and taken care of , but it's been locked away and beaten down so much it only really comes out when she's alone, late at night, when she's in a particularly melancholy mood.
If she can help it, Carter never shows real nervousness or fear. Sure, she'll admit she's nervous about a test or something but anymore than that sort of thing; nope. You'll probably have a better chance at getting her to tell you her crush. She grew up around animals, especially big ones like horses that could easily kill you if you get scared. Reason being, the horse knows when your scared, they in turn get scared, creating a situation when one or more likely both of you could get hurt. Severely so depending on the situation. Because of this, she learned to control fear and stomp it down so much she doesn't really feel it for much more than a minute depending on the circumstances. So far, she's been able to control her fear, only really facing it when she's alone. And even then, she'll usually only own up to it when the thing that caused the fear has been over and done with. This can make her a bit reckless, seeing as she regularly confronts the thing that's making her nervous. For instance: if she has to cross a rickety old bridge and she gets really nervous about crossing it, and doesn't even want to do so, she'll take a deep breath, calm herself down and get rid of the fear and just do it. Even if she's scared out've her mind, she'll most likely push herself to do it with as little hesitation as possible. Heck, if she's in open water, be it lake or ocean, and she's alone, she won't like it, but more often than not, she'll push herself to stay out there and swim for a time. Though she still won't like it. Even without this, she's very brave and courageous. [/ul]
WE LAY WITH NOT A WORD TO SAY
alone we’ll wait ‘til something’s wrong
alone we’ll wait ‘til something’s wrong
FATHER: Gary Roth, 65.
SIBLINGS: Two half-sisters from her dad's side. One of them is named Dallas. She can't remember how she is or who the other one is, and doesn't really want to.
OTHER PEOPLE: Doug Arfa, 53, step-dad
HISTORY: Carter grew up normally for the first 10 years of her life. She grew up in a suburb of Phoenix before moving to Orlando, Florida for a couple years than moving back. She always had pets; big dogs, some cats, fish of course, even a turtle and a bird, seven horses over the years as well. Her mom was great, always there for her and like a friend instead of just a mother. In Florida, they always went to Seaworld and Gatorland, or just did stuff together. Her father though, that was another story. He wasn't abusive or anything, well, verbally abusive would probably be a good term for him. For the first few years of her life, she loved him and was a daddy's girl like all little girls are at that age, but, as she got older she wised up. She learned to take the things he said as either a lie, or a just with a grain a salt. For example; saying they'd go do something together: lie. She was okay with it, heck, if anything, it made her stronger. After a while, it just didn't bother her anymore. But, when they lived on a ranch up in Cave Creek, her parents got a divorce, which she was really, truly fine with. Her and her mom moved in with her grandparents, which she loved because she loved her grandparents with all her heart, her grandfather like the dad she never had, and just thought they were plain awesome. She wasn't doing so well in school at that time, and her father kept saying he gave up on her, that she disappointed him, that he would disappear off the face of the earth and she'd never seen him again. For a while, that made her cry. But then, he jsut said it so much that she just didn't care anymore. In fact, more than once, she wished he would just disappear. It'd make her life easier.
But, then she turned ten and found out she a Harpy. How you may ask? She freaked out a sprouted wings! Turns out her mom didn't want her caught up in the whole monster vs. human spiel, so she figured she'd shelter her from the whole thing until she could understand it more. And since she couldn't really remember her toddler years, she didn't suspect a thing. Turns out, her plan worked. Wonderfully in fact. Carter being as smart as she is, even back then, she understood and her mother than went about teaching her how to control the change and such.Since their house backed up to regional park, her mom could drive them out there and teach her how to fly, more or less, without people seeing them. about three years went by and she proved to be a natural, naturally, at flying, loving to do acrobatics such as flips and spins and even free falls once and a while while her mom wasn't looking.
Her mom got remarried, understandably, and she was fine with it. Carter liked Doug and came to love him like a real dad. She even had trouble not calling him dad on a few occasions. He wasn't any kind of monster, so her and her mom had to keep it a secret from him for the first couple years, and she and Carter went hiking a lot, partly to actually hike, and partly to fly. Then, when she was 15, her mom revealed the fact that he was living with two Harpies over dinner. Dinner, of all things! But, Doug being the open-minded (they taught him well) human that he was, accepted it with surprising understanding. Even cracked a few jokes about it. The point is, now that they didn't have to hide, they went hiking ll together to show him what they could do. They were one big, admittedly weird, happy family. A few months before Carter turned 16, her mom and Doug found out about Akashibai Academy and figured it'd be best to send Carter there. She was looking forward to it, despite herself. Because honestly, she loved Arizona, she grew up there, but when you thought 95 degrees was a cool day, you needed to move. [/ul]
WITH FACES PRESSED AGAINST THE
wall lets show the world what we are about
wall lets show the world what we are about
RP SAMPLE: Anndd....cue the James Bond music. Carter thought with a little smirk as she carefully opened her door, sticking her head out to check if the coast was clear. She looked up and down the hall and waited a few minutes. Seeing that there was no one in sight, she smiled, tossing her messenger bag out the door and crept out, cringing when the sound of the door closing made a scratchy thunk. She froze, half-expecting someone to come barging down the hall even though logically, she knew that there was pretty much zero chance of anyone hearing it. Unless they were a super light sleeper and had hearing like an owl. After a few moments that seemed like minutes, she unfroze and let out a breath, picking up her messenger bag and slinging it over her neck. So with feet encased in striped ankle socks, converse in hand to minimize noise, she traversed the dorm with ease. There was a full moon tonight, so the halls were bathed in that hazy dark blue that came with darkness mixed with moonlight. She was glad that she hadn't watched any horror movies in the last few days. She loved the things, but due to her overactive imagination, she would probably be imagining zombies or escaped psychos around every corner. She snorted inwardly at her thoughts. Good thing she wasn't freaked out by the dark tonight, otherwise she'd miss out on a prime opportunity to explore the campus a little. She figured she'd be fine, she wasn't trying to get into the boys' dorm or go off campus or anything. Besides, she left a note to her roommate saying that she was going out for a late night photo session in case she woke up and found Carter's bed empty.
She adjusted the strap of her bag, not completely used to the fact that it was so light. She had cleaned it out of textbooks and school supplies, it being Friday and all, and instead filled it with everything she needed for her little nighttime escapade. Her sketchbook, pens and pencils of various thicknesses and colors, her Nikon Coolpix camera -she didn't want to risk her good camera getting biffed up-, a water bottle, and, of course, a green apple as a snack. She also had a pair of blue headphones around her neck, the thin cord trekking down and around into the red-cased iPhone her jeans' back pocket. Real headphones, not her earbuds. She had them, so she might as well use them. She moved through the big building in virtual silence, learning how to move so stealthily at a young age because she liked to sneak up and scare her mom. She came to the main area of the girls dorm, a little surprised she made it this far without being caught. Now she just had to get through the front doors. Large an oaken, the double doors were a daunting sight, now especially since she was technically sneaking out. She went up to them, gripping a handle and crossing her fingers. She turned and pushed...nothing. Her eyes snapped open, "Seriously?!" she hissed. She expected this, but still. She huffed under her breath and looked around for an alternative way out. She wasn't going back to bed until she either exhausted all possible ways out or she escaped and looked for a bit. She saw a window to her right and grinned, padding over to it, happily noting that it was big enough to crawl through..
Testing it, she found it was locked, but thankfully, the lock wasn't that big of deal. She shoved a hand into her bag, searching blindly for a paper clip. Her hand closed around something small, metal and twisted. With a silent, triumphant, ah ha!, she pulled it out and bent it straight, using it to jimmy the lock. There was a soft click!, and with that, she slowly raised the window as quiet as possible, praying to God the squeaks and squeals it made didn't wake anyone. Once she was sure it would stay up, she took off her bag and put on her shoes, alternating between balancing on one foot to put the shoe on the other. She threw her bag out the window, cursing the clicking thud it made between the pencils and pens and everything else. Waiting a few seconds to make sure no one heard it, she crawled out through the window, landing in a crouch with a Cheshire grin. she picked up her messenger bag, slung it once again over her shoulder, and starting walking in the direction of the pond. "And that is how you escape." She said quietly with a smile. [/ul]
